Obakosso is the very first solo release from acclaimed percussionist & singer Aduni, an introduction to his musical universe and an upcoming EP on Oshu Records

“Obakosso” is a beautiful example of acoustic Afro-Brazilian Orisha music with a modern sensibility. The song was born from Adunis desire to acknowledge and appreciate his drums, the energies he receives from the instruments and his orisha Shango, the god of drums, thunder and justice. The drums used in the music are called “Ilu”, an instrument traditionally used in the Nagô candomblé of Pernambuco.



“This song was born from my desire to thank my drums and Xango for what they have given me. Xango is the god of drums and justice. The lyrics are traditional “Toadas” of the Nagô Candomblé of Pernambuco. The drums used in the music are called “Ilu”, an instrument with a very characteristic shape and sound.” - Aduni


Aduni Guedes is a young percussion researcher and singer, combining traditonal Afro-Brazilian and West-African sounds with modern influences. Hailing from the North East of Brazil he has been playing with great names of Brazilian music, Vitor Araújo, Grupo Höröyá, Lucas dos Prazeres and Ekò Afrobeat, Fabiana Cozza, Karynna Spinelli and Baby do Brasil (Novos Baianos), before relocating to Berlin to collaborate with artists such as Àbáse, K'boko, Bantunagojejê, and pursuing his solo career.
